Shopping for a prom dress is either a blissful or stressful experiencemine fell into the latter category. My princess-ball-gown dreams were quickly dashed when my mother saw the price tags. I ended up with a black slip of a dress covered in lace that was on sale for $30. I made it work, but I wish Id had access to the Ruby Room, a Seattle-based nonprofit that provides gorgeous boutiques full of prom dresses to girls who wouldnt ordinarily be able to afford them. But, like underappreciated high-school girls, not every dress gets picked to dance. So Ruby Room founder Nyla Jordan came up with the Fashion Faux Pas to Fashion Fabulous fundraiser and fashion show. Hosted by Chinchilla Von Schwamp, the night features local designers, like Mac Designs and Tiffany Miller, who have taken the Ruby Rooms castaway dresses and turned them into one-of-a-kind pieces that will be sent down the catwalk then auctioned. Guests will be treated to drinks, hors doeuvres, and a glimpse of the designers upcoming lines. Look for me there; I just might be wearing my prom dress. The Paramount, 911 Pine St., www.rubyroomseattle.org. $25$50. 7 p.m. SUZIE RUGH Sat., Sept. 6, 7 p.m., 2008
