Seattle Weekly Outsiders Showcase with Arthur & Yu

Friday, July 27

I doubt very highly that Grant Olsen and Sonya Westcott are entrenched in any dope scene, but they make really good drug music. It’s hazy, reverb-y, and a bit throbbing, but sprinkled with psychedelic bells and whistles. The songs themselves are not psychedelic in structure, but more like ’60s folk-pop or the melancholy of the Velvets’ “Pale Blue Eyes.” The real narcotic quality with Arthur & Yu is the complementary voices of Olsen and Westcott. They dance around each other, and step forward and fall back at supposedly spontaneous moments. They obviously have a hell of a chemistry. I can only imagine it getting better from here.
