Ratatat

Monday, July 7

If Ratatat was any cooler, my boyfriend would be in big trouble. The third album from Brooklyn-based electronic music duo– that’s guitarist Mike Stroud and synthesizer driver and producer Evan Mast, or E*Vax– comes on the brink of two other efforts that cemented them in as kings of rock-tronica. Their self-titled debut and Classics were lessons in how to create non-background, non-dancy instrumental music

with simple grooves and squealing, melty harmonies (hip-hop legends like Missy Elliott, Kanye West and Jay-Z have taken note on their two remix albums.) Ratatat has learned from its previous efforts, and LP3 is far better than the occasionally-gimmicky-by-way-of-tiger-roar Classics. It is, finally, the perfect marriage of beeps and riffs. Neumo’s, 925 E. Pike St. 8 p.m., $16 adv, $18 dos.
