Psychobilly Brawl

Just out of college, I worked the door at a rockabilly show, an odd scene for a newbie to observe: a little country, a little sock-hop, a little Goth, and a lot of image. My impression was that rockabilly fans are mostly in it for the laughs—how else to respond to the pompadour, fitted flannel shirt, and thick, black eyeliner? Tonight, Studio 7 takes the rockabilly trend to its logical conclusion, jumping gleefully into the punk-meets-country deep end with the Psychobilly Brawl. It’s a festival of songs with optimistic titles like “Everybody Dies” (by headliner The Goddamn Gallows) set to a beat just begging you to cut a rug. Other bands include Hard Money Saints, Season of Nightmares, James Hunnicutt & The Revolvers, and The AKAs. Rock out, pardner. Studio 7, 110 S. Horton St., 286-1312, www.studioseven.us. $10-$13. 3 p.m. LAURA ONSTOT
