A joyous Peter Pan makes this one of SCTs better productions. Eric Ankrim provides the joyas well as a fine voice and a spot-on characterization of the perpetually boyish, boastful waif who manages to delight despite his self-indulgent qualities. David Pichette slyly plays his foil, Captain Hook, with a winking irony and fanciful footwork. He puts it to use in a hilarious pas de deux between Hook and Peter, disguised as a woman with a very high singing voice. Fans of the original musical (based on James M. Barrie’s book), with music by Jule Styne and Mark Charlap and lyrics by Carolyn Leigh, Betty Comden, and Adolph Green, wont be disappointed. The essentials are all here, including the irresistible ode to childhood, I wont grow up. Yet its not Disneyfied, and that makes it feel fresh. NINA SHAPIRO Ends Jan. 10.
