Nearly Dan

Nearly Dan may not have the Top-40 renown of its near namesake, but it has the chops—mandatory when covering a band as musically complex as Steely Dan. These players—many from Seattle, where the ensemble is based—aren’t your normal tribute group either. They roll 14 members deep, and they’re genuinely talented. Plus, unlike Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, they perform far more often than the occasional reunion gig at the Gorge. And, lyrics aside, we presume they’re far less coked-up and angsty than Becker and Fagen were in their radio heyday. (In fact, some members of ND may not even have been born back then.) In all, this ought to be a fine, grown-up evening of close musical listening and tumblers of Cuervo Gold. What you ingest outside in the alley is your own business.
