Sometimes I forget how consistently excellent San Francisco’s Miguel Migs is at what he does. I OD’d on the relaxed, sexy tempos of chill-out house after four years of playing it on college radio and in a record store where we couldn’t keep Migs’ Naked Music releases on the shelves. The deep house producer is always working—playing the instruments, writing the lyrics, enlisting talented collaborators, and pushing his new Salted label forward. His are the kind of tracks that you might find someone improvising a saxophone solo to in the club. People smile when they dance to this music, (I think) imagining sun on their backs and sand underfoot. Migs’ latest and second solo album, Those Things, features vocalist and producer Lisa Shaw prominently; she’ll be singing live at the show.
