A DJ once asked Margaret Cho what she’d do if she woke up as a beautiful 5’11” blonde weighing 100 pounds. Most women would have strangled the dude right there. Cho retorted, “I probably wouldn’t get up, because I’d be too weak to stand.” Amen, sister. Cho’s always had a knack for using her funniest, most painful personal anecdotes as a tool for social and political commentary. Her new show, “Beautiful,” is a manifesto on body image and sexuality, inspired by folks like DJ Foot-in-the-Mouth. Sure, her self-love and empowerment spiel can get preachy—but just when you think Cho’s gone too far, she confesses to giving men blowjobs so they’ll shut up.
