Lady Miss Kier

Wednesday, August 1

Sometimes, nobody is going to tell you where the party is. You have to read about it on a light pole, which is where I saw that freaking LADY MISS KIER from DEEE-LITE is playing a DJ set tonight at See Sound Lounge’s ’80s night, HIP2B®. I’m sure the original Lawry’s Seasoned Salt club kid, now a globe-trotting party monster and DJ, has visited Seattle since 1997 (when Ariel Stallings bemoaned Kier’s jungle mixing in an old issue of Lotus magazine, R.I.P.), but for those who’ve missed her, or never seen her in the flesh, tonight’s appearance is a very welcome blast from the past. Psychedelic and ’60s-inspired as Kier’s aesthetic is, her randy and politically outspoken disco-house with Deee-Lite mates Dmitry and Towa Tei always invoked a brighter, dewier future. Johnny Fever opens.
