La Compañía Nacional de Danza

Lush, powerful combinations of ballet and modern

Fusion is a trend in dance as well as in food—choreographers mixing ballet and modern dance styles in order to find a balance between virtuosity and passion. Choreographer Nacho Duato’s particular kind of fusion is already well known to Seattle audiences (his Jardi Tancat is a perennial favorite in the Pacific Northwest Ballet repertoire), but now we’ll get to see the source when he brings his home company, La Compañía Nacional de Danza, to town. Duato’s particular take on the combination plate is both lush and powerful: His dancers surge across the stage and fling themselves at each other with detailed abandon. Jardi, alas, is not on the program here, but nevertheless the evening will be filled with that same kind of passionate commitment.
