Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground

Saturday, August 25

Kay Kay and his Weathered Underground seem ubiquitous. Made up of members from Gatsby’s American Dream, the Lashes, Forgive Durden, the Northwest Philharmonic and more, it’s tough to keep track of all of the musicians this local indie supergroup is composed of. Onstage, they glow with delight, grinning at one another as if there were no other band than theirs. They’re proud of themselves. And they’ve got reason to be: It’s not easy to execute what this vaudevillian crew does without the aid of studio time or a live conductor leading the way. Strings, horns, keys, drums, guitar, tambourine, shakers, and more combine to create songs that range from Marvin Gaye–sounding soul and Zombies Britpop to the offbeat bounce of reggae. With Portugal, the Man, the Photo Atlas, and This Will Destroy You.
