Its leftovers sort of like cleaning out the fridge. Thats how local artist Jim Blanchard describes the work hes showcasing through January 31. Hes being far too modest about the various cartoons, decals, and tattoo flash (i.e., the design templates) on display next to his large-scale paintings. The former Fantagraphics art director and inker for Peter Bagges Hate comics is heavily influenced by pulp magazines, mug shots, and vintage record covers. The resulting exhibit, Eyeball Fatigue, is filled with blindingly bright and zany attention-getters. Visitors who like what they see should peruse Beasts and Priests (Fantagraphics, $9.95), which collects more than ten years worth of his graphic design workincluding eye-popping portraits of Raquel Welch, Brigitte Bardot, Clint Eastwood, Steve McQueen, and Ron Jeremy.
