Grizzly Bear + Deerhunter

Thursday, September 6

I’ll be roaming the curry soaked streets of London when this Brooklyn band takes the stage. And while the UK is a damn good consolation prize, a non-refundable plane ticket is pretty much the only thing that would keep me from missing a Seattle Grizzly Bear show. On their last stop—at the Moore Theatre this spring as openers for Feist—much of 2006’s Yellow House was showcased, with its crazy, complex arrangements and soaring, cathedral-worthy harmonies. This time around the boys have something piping hot up their sleeves, a new extra-long, ten-song EP, Friend, featuring a whole collection of goodies including our, er, South Carolina’s Band of Horses covering GB’s “Plans”, live recordings, outtakes and new originals. Deerhunter—of whom Grizzly’s frontman Ed Droste is a self-proclaimed “#1 fan for life!” according to his blog—comes along for the ride (the only date of the tour!).
