Gregory Blackstock’s Collections

Gregory Blackstock slam-dunked his way into the local art scene in 2003 with a collection of his drawings called—what else?—Blackstock’s Collections. But many Seattleites already knew him from outside KeyArena, where the multitalented virtuoso often jammed on his accordion before Sonics games. (May the departed rest in peace.) And unlike Howard Schultz, Blackstock has already moved on from the stupor of losing the Super-loser Sonics with his latest exhibit, “Vernacular” (through Aug. 2). This time, though, Blackstock’s art comes in the form of photos from yet another hobby of his—traveling. Fun and fanciful, his images from county fairs and the like suggest an innocent bygone era (the early ’90s, in fact).
