Gay Ol’ Purim

The holiday of Purim has always been the sexiest one on the Jewish calendar. There’s a lot of sexual text and subtext to the story of Queen Esther, on which the holiday is based, plus drinking is mandatory and dressing in drag is encouraged. For the second year running, Seattle’s GLBTQ Jewish group, Kolenu, is holding a “Gay Ol’ Purim” party for Jews, Gentiles, and everyone in between. There’ll be dancing, burlesque, and pink hamantaschen. True, it’s being held the night AFTER Purim (which is on Saturday), but then reversing the expected is pretty much what the holiday’s all about.
