Fridays First

Better loving through chemistry

So you always seem to miss the art on First Thursday—too bad! McLeod Residence, a somewhat insidery artist space/lounge/gallery, is open to the world at large tonight, so you can belatedly fortify your soul with visual art. The neat thing about McLeod is its mix of high, low, and tech-based art, with the latter represented permanently by a photo booth that snaps patrons as they enter and exit the place’s grand staircase. Put your face on for this opening of “The More You Know” (remember those celebrity PSAs during Saturday morning cartoons?), featuring celebrity portraits by Jeff Bender and works from Jeffrey Sarmiento and Jason Huntley. McLeod describes the grouping as “a nod to fall and back-to-school times,” and while I find the relationships between Sarmiento’s familial images in fused glass and Huntley’s portrait of Jacko made entirely from breakfast cereal tenuous at best, it doesn’t really matter. You’re as much a part of the show here as anything else.

Fri., Sept. 14, 6-9 p.m.
