It was all in the titling, really. With a band name like Presidents of the United States of America and ultra-prosaic songs like Peaches, Lump, and Kittywhich featured similarly simplistic lyricsPOTUSA never should have been anything more than the house band for Schoolhouse Rock. But because that cartoon confection was defunct by the time the Presidents formed, they had to settle for worldwide superstardom in the popular music wasteland otherwise known as the mid-90s. But it seems like the local trio is now wiser for the wear: This Saturday, they play a pair of concerts for kids. Which is to say, theyve finally found an audience whose median vocabulary is on the same intellectual plane as their songwriting.
