Indie rock may be lacking soul (if this month’s ongoing joke/discussion is correct), but you can avoid it entirely this weekend, and check out the real deal, at Emerald City Soul Club’s Weekender. ECSC hosts regular dance nights with an emphasis on the ‘60s, ‘70s, and Northern Soul, when all the music is played on 45’s. The second annual Weekender expands on those evenings with DJs from around the world playing an “Allnighter” (7 p.m.-4 a.m. tonight), and “Alldayer” (12 p.m.-7 p.m. tomorrow), with a live performance from Detroit legends JJ Barnes and the Brothers of Soul (also tomorrow). And if you’re still standing, there’s a massive, 45s-only vinyl trade fair on Sunday. Now who’s got soul?
