Pack up the kids, put some sunscreen and extra clothes in your panniers, and possibly add some beach towels, too. Oh, and a light bike lock and some cash for the beer garden. Thats right, its the Cascade Bicycle Clubs annual Cyclefest, which this year includes a two-wheeled kiddie treasure hunt (at 5 p.m.) and parade (7:30 p.m.). For older athletes, bicycle polo (3 p.m.) and pedal-powered drag races (6 p.m.) are also on the schedule. Various booths and exhibits will surround the beer garden (not for the kids, obvs), and you can also stuff your face with gyros and other Greek delicacies. All of which leads up to the 9:15 p.m. big-screen projection of that days Stage 14 in the Tour de France (dont read the papers! Dont check the Web! No spoilers!), which features three murderous climbs in the Pyrenees. The last leads to an uphill finish at Plateau-de-Beille, meaning a huge opportunity for contenders, including American Levi Leipheimer, to gain major time or reverse prior deficits. Youll probably burn calories just watching. And, finally, dont forget your lights for the comparatively easy nighttime ride home.
