Circus Contraption & The Aerialistas

Shock and awe, the good kind, at Winterfest

It’s hard to get young rock fans to stay quiet for long. Capturing their attention with something other than dance-worthy beats or punk mayhem takes a skill akin to the greatest hypnotists. That is exactly what Circus Contraption did earlier this month at Neumo’s, when they held rapt an audience celebrating the end of prohibition with whiskey flowing. Physics was defied as Acrophelia contorted herself in the arms of her strongman and jugglers teased intoxicated audience participants with flashing blades. The jokes hit home and the stunts elicited gasps—a success to be sure. The only group of people that may be more difficult to entertain than a crowd of drunk electronica fans is kindergarteners. But the performers of C.C. are up to the challenge. They’re cleaning up the bawdier aspects of their neo-vaudeville acts to amaze people of all ages at Seattle Center as part of Winterfest. Joining them in death-defying, or at least attention-grabbing, feats will be local trapeze divas The Aerialistas.
