Looking at April Brimers portraits, you cant help but wonder what is happening. Why is that girls popcorn flying out of its box? Does that foxy lady know theres a fox under her bed? And who is that hunk in the sexy horn-rimmed glasses? Is it me? Unfortunately there arent answers provided alongside the Seattle-trained Brimers photographs in Portraits of Curiosity (through Nov. 22). Brimers skill, though, is evident in the portraits clarity, eye-popping color and lighting, and innovative angles. If their ambiguity frustrates and ultimately wears out your curiosity, turn to the soothing parallel exhibition by Brent Watanabe. His animation installation Stack:Heap:Loop mixes elements of a video game, surround sound, sketches of a duck, and, thankfully, the mind-numbing effects of TV. McLeod Residence Gallery, 2209 Second Ave., 441-3314, www.mcleodresidence.com. Free. 6 p.m.2 a.m. JOSHUA LYNCH
Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Oct. 9. Continues through Nov. 22, 2008
