Pigeons have sex each morning outside the window of my First Hill closet/studio, which I really can’t afford. My roommate is a Chihuahua. I have less than $200 in savings. If being broke in your 20s sounds familiar, Studio 100’s group show “This Place Is a Prison” (through July 4) will bring that penurious existence home. Through the lenses of three young photographers—Emily Ibarra, Jack Raynard, and Seattle’s Angela Dawn—we see low-rent vistas of littered streets, claustrophobic spaces, and impeccably dressed people. (What misguided young adult hasn’t taken a cash advance on the Visa card for party attire and drinks?) But these aren’t Nan Goldin–style documents from bohemia. Rather, with a teasing shutter finger, each staged tableau imparts a kind of whimsical gloss to the down-and-out crowd. They’ve got Goodwill glamour and Dior dreams.
