The Meritage Lounge in the Redmond Marriot Hotel seems caught in a stylistic tussle with itself: too classy for hipsters, too suburban for Seattlelites, too affordable for the Eastside money-obsessed, a little fancy for the jet-lagged businessman. But the bar sprawls out into its own large room, inviting couches and chairs are spread throughout, and candles on tables add a touch of class to the atmosphere. The daily happy hours run from 4 to 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. to midnight. Drafts are $3, and well drinks and wine are $4. Among the appetizers, the warm gorgonzola dip with toasted raisin bread ($4) is a winner, the melted cheese bold yet subtle and perfect with the semi-sweet raisin bread, homemade chips, and sliced apple. The calamari ($5) was middle-of-the-road, but for $7 you can get it as part of the tapas sampler, which also boasts zucchini fritters and garlic shrimp. The shrimp were exceptional, though there were only three of them. Flat bread “classico” ($9) means à la caprese, topped with squashy out-of-season tomatoes and cold wet mozzarella; not good.
