Hey, so you might not have heard, but a couple months ago

Hey, so you might not have heard, but a couple months ago things got crazy down on Rainier Avenue and a white cop punched a black girl during a jaywalking stop. (I know, right?!) Better yet, some dude standing nearby caught it all on tape. (Again, how did you miss this?! It was BIG NEWS. Were you hurt? Sick?) Anyway, don’t worry, because if you didn’t catch it the first time around there are still people willing to yell real loud about the cop-punch.Last night, at what probably must have seemed like the 300th meeting surrounding his appointment as police chief, John Diaz sat in a room and listened as a handful of community leaders performed some sort of gestalt therapy ritual, yelling at him that he hadn’t done enough to heal Seattle’s wounds.(No really. Actual quote: “It is my belief that Chief Diaz is a Band-Aid to these wounds, and this city needs some stitches.” Clever by half, but what the hell does that mean?)This, despite the fact that, technically, Diaz can’t even really say anything about the incident, on account of an internal investigation being conducted. And, more importantly, despite the fact that the punchee in question has since apologized to the cop who hit her for doing all those things that led to her getting hit. That’s right: the girl who actually got punched has moved on. It’s just too bad others haven’t learned from her example.
