I debated whether to put this into the Daily Weekly news blog or Reverb, but the man’s running for city council, so news it is. George ‘Rusty’ Williams’ former band Los Orchids is playing his campaign kickoff May 31 at the Rendezvous in Belltown. Williams, son of the late city council member Jeanette Williams, will talk your ear off about another band he played in, Bighorn. He played for them in the early 1970s, leaving before they hit it big with a Columbia record deal in 1979, followed shortly by Bighorn’s dissolution. I have no idea how well Los Orchids did, or even who they were.It is a campaign fundraiser so he’s asking attendees for a minimum donation of $50. Williams hasn’t been particularly specific or focused in his vision for the city thus far, but if you have a soft spot for old guy rock ‘n roll, Rusty might be your man.
