Every month or so, Seattle hip-hop group They Live! release a song or a video about drugs. Their last video for “Meth Heads” was utterly disturbing in all of the right ways and felt like something of a George Romero film. A few days ago, the duo of Gatsby and DJ blesone put out a new song called “Whitney.” It’s loosely about weed and riffs on the line, “I be smoking that Whitney, so come and get with me.” The group’s production is solid, the music is creative (which is rare for drug rap), and they’re definitely worth checking out at Capitol Hill Block Party a couple of weeks from now. Download “Whitney” and be on the look out for an They Live! EP in August.
