Because of the 9/11 anthrax mailings that killed several post office workers back in 2001, letter carriers get rightfully freaked when they see any white powder. So when one got a face-full of the chalky stuff while handling an envelope from Seattle’s Blake Howe addressed to Senator Jim DeMint (pictured at right), they naturally thought to call the cops.According to the P-I, Howe told investigators he was mad at the Republican because he had been sent some “propaganda” from his office. Why a South Carolina Senator would be mailing anything to a man living in Seattle is beyond me. But it doesn’t seem like Howe really thought this one through either.Claiming he’d never even heard of the anthrax attacks, Howe says he wasn’t trying to scare DeMint. Rather, he just wanted to “gum up the works” by sending his office an envelope filled with baking soda, staples and paperclips. Spamming the spammer, I guess.Howe has pleaded not guilty to a single count of attempted destruction of government property. He is expected to return to court on June 30, by which point he will already be the poster boy for Tea Party activists claiming that what they say and do is no more crazy and threatening than what’s done by Democrats.
