Our Jesse Froehling told you about Spanaway speed demon Ed Shadle in his June 2008 cover feature (Tailpipe Dream). Now The New York Times follows the story of Shadle’s quest down to Black Rock, Nevada, where he hopes to break the land speed record using a military surplus jet engine.Shadle (pictured at left by Kevin P. Casey) told SW last year that, “The difference between me and some of the others is I always have this motto that is ‘Do what you say you’re going to do.’ So when I said I would do it, that’s it. I’m moving forward with it.” Moving forward at a planned 800 miles per hour.
