When covering your own ass goes too far.Getting something hot from Starbucks is one of America’s favorite pastimes. As is filing frivolous lawsuits. So it only makes sense that the two would mix together occasionally to form an annoying brew of opportunistic jurisprudence.Zeynep Inanli says that she was served tea that was “unreasonably hot” at a Manhattan Starbucks. Inanli alleges she suffered second-degree burns and “great physical pain and mental anguish” as a result of a container she claims wasn’t safe.Because this is America, Inanli’s cups, like all the to-go cups Starbucks offers, already featured the following warning: “Careful, the beverage you’re about to enjoy is extremely hot.” A redundancy made necessary by lawsuits like the one brought by that lady who burned herself on McDonald’s coffee.Inanli is seeking unspecified damages and terabytes of mocking press, the latter of which she’s already received.
