An interesting item in this weekend’s New York Times, in which Google executive Marissa Mayer’s design dictates for the company’s clean, minimalist home page are linked to her home decor. Says the Times, “Her San Francisco penthouse has a similar, but more expensive, aesthetic. It is painted in neutral shades and decorated with fanciful, multihued glass artwork by Dale Chihuly.”Really? If the Northwest glassblower/entrepreneur were to design a Web site, I think it’d be more like a screen saver gone amok–a lapidary explosion of color. Not like Mayer’s declaration that, “I’m not very knick-knacky or cluttery. My place has very clean, simple lines.” Still, you can’t buy publicity like that. I’m sure that she and Google founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin can expect several chandeliers in the mail. In several colors. Several, several colors.
