Seattle Improvised Music Festival

Chances are its been far too long since youve been serenaded by the Renaissance lute. Lute improvisation has, regrettably, taken a dive in popularity over the last four or five centuries, but its back in style at the 23rd Seattle Improvised Music Festivalalongside guitars, pianos, saxophones, and self-made instruments, among others. Musicians from around the world descend upon the city for six days of improvisational glory and high-minded pursuits with a lot of big words. New York saxophonist Gregory Reynolds, for example, endeavors to facilitate an experience of heightened sensitivity and awareness of physical, architectural, and spiritual qualities while Zurich percussionist and electronic musician Jason Zahn addresses the entity of sound as both a physical and psychological factor in shaping our consciousness. Roughly translated, the music will be awesome.
