Rossi for the next five months.Dino Rossi is playing the world’s most cynical game. And he’s not even good at it.When you’re the guy who doesn’t have any power you tell people if they decide to give you power you’d only use it for good. This is Rossi. Telling voters that if they send him to D.C. he’ll reject earmarks and stimulus grants out of some sacrifice to the principles of small government. Then, when you get elected and realize that the stand-on-your-principles plan is making you look bad, you scratch, bite and claw your way into a cushy committee seat and accept that this is how the game is played. Sure a large part of your soul dies in the process. But at least it dies for a good cause. Like a hometown runway that doesn’t have potholes the size of caves in Kashmir. The irony, of course, is that should Rossi actually get elected, he won’t even have to try to reject earmarks. Because that’s what happens when you don’t have power. You don’t get them in the first place.
