Clay Statewright used an awfully unorthodox technique to treat one of his alcoholic patients: he got her drunk. Statewright is a chemical dependency counselor. Or at least he was. Because yesterday the Department of Health suspended his license on charges that he coerced a patient into having sex with him by threatening to rat her out and send her back to jail. It’s not clear precisely how unwilling Statewright’s victim was at first. Initially, the state says the he agreed to overlook the fact that she wasn’t going to her mandatory counseling sessions in exchange for sex.Eventually though, that arrangement turned hostile, as Statewright allegedly threatened to turn the woman in and have her shipped back to the clink if she wouldn’t continue with their little give-and-take.It was clearly a relationship she had trouble consummating. Statewright’s victim would allegedly come over to his house, then proceed to get drunk enough to, in the immensely understate words of the Department of Health, “complete his requests.”She also didn’t seem to benefit from Statewright’s unusual treatment philosophy, as just two months after being trusted to his care she was stopped and charged with her second DUI.Statewright now has 20 days to respond to the suspension and request a hearing.
