OK, say it’s, oh, a Wednesday, and you’ve got a hankering to sleep out under the stars. Without much fuss, you can take a short trip out close to Enumclaw (about a 40-minute drive) and find yourself in a cush car-camping spot, Kanaskat-Palmer State Park. The park has four miles of hiking trails, a fantastic swimming hole (complete with a rock to jump off of), white-water rafting, and fishing, as well as (and maybe best of all) hot showers. Expect a minimum of privacy at one of the 49 leafy sites, and friendly neighbors. A trip here will make you feel like you’ve been to another country—or county, anyway.—Adriana Grant 32347 Cumberland-Kanaskat Road S.E., King County, 888-CAMPOUT, www.parks.wa.gov.
