Nyx spins tonight at the Lo-Fi. 21-plus. Doors at 10 p.m. Ladies free and guys $5 before 11p.m.Once upon a time, there used to be this fun, friendly, and generally kick-ass blending of visual art, DJs, and MCs every month at the Lo-Fi thanks to the Artifakt crew. It was at these parties that I first caught local trio Life Cycle performing their smoothed-out West Coast hip-hop and Tacoma-born, Brooklyn-based electro-spazz-act Eliot Lipp wobbling the walls. And then–poof–the party was gone. So, why did it recede into the fog? According to Artifakt principal Jake Wagner, it was because the crew had outgrown the Lo-Fi for a time. “We did a couple colab shows that were bigger and needed more capacity, so we did two shows at Nectar over the summer. Then we took a couple months off–no other reason then to relax and have a well-needed break. We’re back now though, and instead of doing a monthly we’re gonna do a bi-monthly with some really cool themed events.” Hence, tonight’s all-female line-up of jocks (Eva, Colby B, Nyx) and visual artists (Cameron Kim, Sullivan Giles, and Heather B Allsion), and, in February, a Valentine’s Day event featuring girl-vs-guy DJ battles. Both events will take place at the Lo-Fi. Welcome back, Artifakt.
