Oceanic

Picasso had his blue period. Hugh Hefner had his blonde period. Through August 11, “Oceanic: Nautical Adventures and Underwater Realms” represents Seattle curator/artist Ninjagrl’s auriferous period. Paying homage to the substance that takes up nearly three-fourths of our planet, “Oceanic” features contemporary character-based acrylic creations from several artists Ninjagrl discovered on the Web. Their interpretations range from serene to disturbing. Children ride the waves on the backs of seahorses. Flirty fish wear red lipstick and mascara. Even the Loch Ness Monster makes an appearance. And it turns out he’s actually quite friendly. Suite 100 Gallery, 2222 Second Ave., 956-3900, www.suite100gallery.com. Free. Noon to 6 p.m. ERIKA HOBART
