Most female comics are merely outspoken, not confrontational. Thats not the case with Janeane Garofalo. Shes up in peoples faces, and thats why we love her. Her fights range from small (calling former SNL co-star Adam Sandlers humor childish) to medium (labeling her 1996 breakthrough The Truth About Cats & Dogs anti-feminist) to big (going head to head with Bill OReilly on Iraq and atheism). And despite that latter clash, Fox recently announced that Garofalo will appear as an FBI agent on the new season of 24. Apparently it pays to be true to yourself, especially after the demise of her Air America show and the stall-out of her recent film and TV career. Returning to her alt-comedy roots seems to be working: Last year she co-headlined with Patton Oswalt, and her spring solo tour was very successful. (Tonights show is a makeup date from a cancelled gig in May.) Then its off to fight terrorism with Kiefer Sutherland.
