This is a crowd shot of Arco Arena in Sacramento from a recent Kings game. Granted, the Kings are terrible — but the Sonics were terrible last year, and they’d have double this many attendees for even an early-season showdown with the equally terrible Memphis Grizzlies. Sacramento’s been a pretty good small market over the years for the NBA, namely because the Kings have typically fielded pretty good teams But now that they’re not, I can’t help but wonder what kind of reception they’d get in hoop-starved Seattle. And remember, it wasn’t that long ago when the Kings called Kansas City home; poaching them would not be akin to what Oklahoma City did to the Supes.
