Learning about comics is a lot like playing chess: It guarantees that you won’t get laid. Right? Wait. No—didn’t Art Spiegelman’s Maus win a Pulitzer Prize? Yes. And wasn’t Alison Bechdel’s Fun Home overwhelmingly named one of the best books of 2006? Indeed. And weren’t the first cave drawings sort of like Paleolithic graphic novels, etched in woolly mammoth blood by club-wielding cavemen? Uh, sure.
