Siphoning gas is only a crime if the car you’re siphoning from is doing good work. If you were to suck the unleaded out of, say, one of those tricked-out Accords with a muffler that doubles as a jet engine, you might be eligible for some sort of humanitarian award. The same can’t be said for the couple in Tacoma who, last night, got caught stealing from a Salvation Army van.A 20-year-old woman and an unidentified man were in a church parking lot when a witness spotted them running a hose out of the gas tank. Startled by the onlooker, the couple looked up and then suddenly burst into flames. The fireball was apparently big enough to scorch the people, the van and a nearby car. The man was able to put himself, then booked it before the cops arrived. The woman wasn’t so lucky. She had to be doused by the witness’s garden hose before being taken to the hospital for burns. Her condition is not said to be serious. But she could face charges when she gets released.
