In one of the weirder incidents on our state’s roadways this year, a scantily clad 23-year old woman was found this morning by a trucker as she crawled out of a swamp.The woman was hypothermic, covered in cuts from blackberry bushes, and in a state of confusion when the driver picked her up near Tacoma and brought her to a weigh station, from where she was taken to hospital. She is now resting and is expected to make a full recovery. But wait. Why was she in a swamp again? State Trooper Guy Gill says the woman, whose name has not yet been released, told authorities that last night she was the passenger in a truck with a male companion as they drove on a remote road in the middle of the woods, when the truck either ran out of gas or otherwise stopped working. They got out and started walking in search of help. And then, she told officers, the man left her behind.The woman, as we know, was found the following morning freezing and in her underwear, and possibly near death. The man, says Gill, has not been located. A report of a pedestrian last night on I-5 matching the man’s description indicates that he hitched a ride and is safe, Gill says, though officers visiting what they believe to be his home today in Centralia didn’t find him. To err on the side of caution, the State Patrol also sent up their special airplane with flares and thermal sensors (which, we’d be remiss not to note, sounds like a pretty neat toy) over the swamp, which turned up nothing. The man isn’t suspected of anything criminal, Gill says: “We want to make sure he’s OK.”That, and perhaps ask him why he abandoned his lady-friend in the woods in the middle of the night.Follow The Daily Weekly on Facebook and Twitter.
