Detectives say the 2-year-old girl’s head “felt like Jello” as they raced her to Harborview Medical Center in a desperate attempt to save her life–a task at which doctors ultimately failed. Now, Ron Wallace, Jr. a 28-year-old from Federal Way, is facing second-degree murder charges for allegedly beating the girl to death for soiling her diaper. The P-I
reported Monday that the girl–Purpose Goldsmith–was Wallace’s girlfriend’s daughter, and that on the night of Nov. 21, he was supposed to be watching her while his girlfriend was at work. Instead, he supposedly got so mad that the child had dirtied her diaper that he beat her with a belt six or seven times, and shook her until she went limp.Perhaps realizing what he had done, he called for an ambulance to come once she quit breathing. When asked what happened, he claimed he had no idea how the kid came to be horribly injured, until supposedly he finally admitted that he he had done it himself. As the P-I points out, this isn’t the first time Wallace has been in trouble for beating children when they did something that children typically do. He did nine months in prison in 2005 for pushing down on his own daughter’s chest, until her ribs broke, after she wouldn’t stop crying.Under state law, Wallace will almost certainly be be looking at a life sentence if convicted of the crime–appropriate, considering that, if true, a young girl is dead and a mom is without a daughter thanks to Wallace’s gross dislike of anything resembling basic parental duties.
