Godless blue heathens.Mark Driscoll is the founder of Mars Hill Church, one of the fastest-growing congregations in the country. He’s also a homophobic, misogynistic, bigoted douchebag who gets a pass from some Christians because he’s hip enough to play in a band, wear skinny jeans and curse. (Fuck yeah, Jesus!)In other words, anything Driscoll says you should do? You should probably do the opposite.Case in point: Driscoll hates “Avatar.” Why?Because it’s “Dances With Wolves” in space? Because the Na’vi sex scene got deleted? Because giving money to Fox means directly funding Rupert Murdoch’s media empire?Negative. Because, as Driscoll says, “Avatar” is the “most demonic, satanic film” he’s ever seen.A Mickey Mouse ringer T? How edgy!Driscoll’s February 14th sermon wasn’t very Valentiney. Seeing as how he spent a portion of it claiming James Cameron was Beezlebub for “preaching a completely false ideology” where human beings aren’t meant to worship God, but rather “to connect, literally, with trees and animals and beasts and birds.”(Because heaven forbid, right?)Driscoll’s claim that Cameron’s film is pagan propaganda isn’t a surprise. Nor is it an original argument.Hell, even the Vatican, the slowest moving bureaucracy in the known universe, has already warned of “Avatar’s” nature-over-religion subtext. And that was a month ago. Well before it passed “Titanic” to become the highest-grossing film of all-time.In other words, it’s still playing at Pacific Place. Tell the guy who rips your ticket that Marc Driscoll sent ya.
