Naturally, the reign of Dubya has made us all wary of careers being passed from father to sonbut dont let that scare you away from hearing Julian Schwarz, 17-year-old son of SSOs Gerard Schwarz, conduct the Lake Union Civic Orchestra tonight. For one thing, hes a powerfully gifted musicianspecifically, cellistin his own right. Second, he was appointed LUCOs assistant conductor not by the Supreme Court, but by its music director, Christophe Chagnard, who calls Julian a musician of enormous personality and emotional range . . . his honesty on the podium inspires musicians to embrace his precocious artistry. Hell lead Dukas sparkling The Sorcerers Apprentice. For the concerts second half, Chagnards chosen Holsts The Planets, one of those pieces I make a point of listening to every five years or so to see if I still cant stand it. If any group could bring it to life for me, though, itd be this gutsy, ebullient community orchestra. Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave., 343-5826, www.luco.org. $10$15. 7:30 p.m. GAVIN BORCHERT
