Husky boosters, seen arriving at the game in their private vessels, are looking to the state for stadium money.In January, UW President Mark Emmert conceded that “it’s sure challenging PR” to ask Olympia for $150 million in King County taxes for a renovation of Husky stadium. (A renovation that would actually eliminate uses of the stadium by removing the track.) But the school planned to do it anyway. It’s now March, and–shockingly–there’s still no sign of stadium-funding action in the cash-strapped state capitol. But that doesn’t seem to worry UW athletic director Scott Woodward. Participating in a live chat on Bob Condotta’s Husky basketball blog, Woodward said that the school expects stadium-funding legislation to be proposed shortly. Asked what the school would do if the legislation somehow fails (there’s a little stadium downtown that might work, and the UW could supersize its endowment by selling off the waterfront, directly-above-a-light-rail-station land), Woodward responded, “We haven’t discussed that yet and I would bring that back to the stadium committee and figure out a plan B. Right now we don’t have a Plan B.”
