The day before my bands second show, I got a call from SW blogger Krist Novoselic: Do you play in a Foo Fighters cover band? he asked. Damn. All I could stammer was, I was hoping we would never have this conversation. Yes, I play drums in I Pity the Foo, Bremertons premiere Foo Fighters cover band. But its a little embarrassing to be talking about it with Dave Grohls former bandmate in Nirvana, the bassist on some early FF demos, and the surprise guest at its 1999 Deck the Hall Ball set. At least he hasnt seen us live. The Foo are impossible to imitate, which is why IPF isnt a tribute band. Ive been a fan for years, but never fully appreciated the subtleties of Grohls drumming until I tried playing My Hero. If you think its easy, youre not playing it right. The bands in town tonight supporting Echoes, Silence, Patience and Grace and its single, The Pretender. Im proud to be one. KeyArena, Seattle Center, 628-0888, www.ticketmaster.com. $25$45.
