Local Summer CD Releases
Sure, you can go out every night during the summer and hear good music, but why limit yourself? Several local artists have summer-pegged CDs. Here are seven of the most noteworthy.
Brandi Carlile, no title yet (Columbia) The 2004 Seattle Weekly Music Award winner (for Best Singer/Songwriter) was signed to the major label at the beginning of the year and appears on the company’s soundtrack for the movie Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, out this week. Her as-yet-untitled debut for Columbia doesn’t have a release date set, either, but is scheduled to arrive sometime during the summer; John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney) produces.
Caro, The Return of Caro (Orac) Randy Jones may not be familiar to you, but globally he’s one of the most sought-after DJs and producers in techno, and his new disc demonstrates why. Out in June.
The Catch, Get Cool (Made in Mexico) More smart pop-punk, this time courtesy of a four-woman group fronted by U.S.E.’s Carly Nicklaus. Released locally May 3, out nationally in June.
Bill Frisell, East-West (Nonesuch) The city’s premier (and hardest-recording) jazz guitarist steps out on this dual live set, recorded by Tucker Martine in late 2003. Out July 12.
Kinski, Alpine Static (Sub Pop) The roaring, psychedelic rock of this beloved local trio ticks up the volume a notch on their fifth full release. Out July 12.
The Lashes, no title yet (Columbia) So, does Columbia’s A&R live here or what? Either way, these likably sloppy and surprisingly sharp pop-punks are also on the roster now, and their album (no title or date yet) is also due to arrive sometime before Bumbershoot. We shall see.
Minus the Bear, Menos el Oso (Suicide Squeeze) Just what you need—another indie-rock album. Well, how about one that’s really, really good? That’s what we’re talking about here. Out Aug. 23.
