Credit Seattle Rep. Jim McDermott for seeing this one through. His bill to extend unemployment benefits for 13 weeks was included in a Senate spending measure and signed by the president today– something considered a long shot a few short weeks ago. McDermott estimates 46,000 out-of-work Washington residents will benefit from the extension between now and next March.
