Christine Gregoire would remind the crowd how painfully close the race was in 2004 and attempt to rally them by proclaiming “this year it must be over on election night!” She got her wish. Despite a game effort by Dino Rossi to run this race as a rematch and his superior skills connecting with voters, Gregoire came up big. Bolstered by the Obama tide, even with much of King County yet to be counted, the incumbent’s up a comfortable 54 to 46 percent. Now, thankfully, she can go back to what she does best: governing. And Rossi, who still has yet to concede the race, can end his six-year campaign.
