A small-town girl with big-city dreams. Her only hope for survival: La Familia. The Justice Department is in full chest-puffing mode. In the past two days, agents have made 303 arrests in 19 states — including some in the Seattle area — in an operation they, with the help of Hollywood schlockmeister Michael Bay, codenamed Coronado. The stats are impressive. In two days of raids the Feds got $3.4 million in cash, 729 pounds of methamphetamine, 136 pounds of cocaine, 967 pounds of marijuana, 144 weapons and 109 vehicles. The sting was the culmination of a 44-month investigation into a Mexican drug gang known as “La Familia.” (OK. Now it’s a statistical improbability that Bay isn’t working on a screenplay about this as we speak. Can Megan Fox play Mexican? Ahh, who cares. Put her on the poster!)In related news, yesterday at 23rd and Cherry I walked through a skunk cloud thick enough to choke a rhino. At 8:30 in the morning. Drug war = won.
